STUDIO / STATEMENT
My tools, supplies, and equipment that I use are very basic, and very earthy. Ceramic tile is clay fired into square bisque pieces. The design is then applied with beeswax to protect the area that is needed to be retained white. The rest is then painted with colored glaze (silica powder with pigments suspended in water) and then fired in a kiln to 1300 degrees. When the tile is fired, the wax burns out, and only the tile with the colored glaze remains. I actually repeat the process many times to obtain more richness and special effects. A final glaze is used to seal everything in, even if it is a matte glaze that is not really evident.

The important thing is always the concept, and then the design, then the rest of the ideas are brought out and developed by the persistence in working with the media.

I also use new technologies, in that I scan in my own designs. or my finished tiles to work on large projects and do presentations. I also use a digital camera for reference when I canŐt catch a certain action. I prefer a Canon over any other, and like most artists, I love my MAC!
